Crinkled Ribbon Tutorial

I just love crinkled dyed ribbon for using on my projects ~

This is a tutorial on how to make it yourself ~

First you get whatever color ribbon you want to use ~

I use seam binding for the ribbon because I love how it feels ~

Then you soak it in either tea or instant coffee ~

I scrunch mine in a ball and wrap it in about 3 rubber bands ~

Then I sit it out in the sun and as it dries it gets a wonderful aged look especially on the outside edges ~

After it has dried about 3/4 of the way, I take the bands off and kind of loosely spread the ribbon out to dry in the sun ~

Every once in awhile I go and turn the ribbon until it is completely dry ~

Then it is ready to use on your projects ~

I just love love crinkled dyed ribbon !

If you don't want to try it, I do have some for sale on my website here ~

Well Lori Great minds think alike ..this is how I make mine too ..only difference I dry mine in my toaster oven in the metal tray ..

I just set it on the lowest baking degree and within about 10 minutes it's dry and has a great look all over ...

Have a Lovely Night ..

Ooo thanks Lori, I've dyed in tea and coffee before, but never let it dry outside, so I'll try that. Sometimes I get to use expired, plain packing that we use in surgery. LOL! It kind of looks like muslin. Your binding though looks a little more shiny and prettier than mine. Thanks for the tip!

I also want to say how much I love your pocket pillows, so much fun to find vintage images and other things to put into the pockets. I, too, have a thing for sweet baby shoes. Thank you so much for coming by for a visit, my friend. Enjoy your Friday and have a lovely weekend~ Vicki
p.s. I so want to get to Canton soon. Haven't been in a long time, too long.

Hey Lori,
Great tutorial. I too would love to know your source for the seam binding. I have seen several but I am always concerned it will be too heavy.

I also have done this a while back ...I boil my seam binding to get any of the sizing out & than soak in a very strong hot tea . Also if U shop in a of the thrift store's try finding vintage florist ribbon in the big rolls ( not the waterproof kind ) any color, than boil for 5 min. take out put in a strong bleaching solution of 3/4 c. hot water to 1/4 c. bleach soak till u get a color u like, rinse, towel dry & scrunch up .Cheap & you'll love some of the results ... I tried this with different types of new & old ribbon or torn, ripped fabric with some fun results .... ~~ gail ~~
