More Blogger Inspiration

I am constantly inspired by the talented ladies in the blog world ~
While visiting Tea Rose Home, I decided
to do something with t-shirts that were headed to Goodwill ~

Strips were cut from the bottom of one to make the ruffles and the rose and I also cut a V-Neck ~

I ended up with too long of a ruffle so just continued it down the front ~

With one of the strips I made a rose ~
I am loving making roses in case that
wasn't too obvious :)

It was so easy and now I have a shirt to wear that has been in a bag to say good bye to ~

The pictures are stinky because it was way too early in the morning to take them ~

Have a creative day !

Covered Lampshades & Vintage Bathing Suits

I was inspired today by Rebecca at A Gathering of Thoughts to recover a lampshade ~

That has always been something that I have wanted to do but really never knew how to approach it ~

Her tutorial is super easy to follow ~

This is how mine turned out and it was so much fun ! Thank you Rebecca !

Today I was looking through some vintage ephemera that I have and found this wonderful fashion magazine ~

This is a scan of one of several pages from a magazine called Delineator that I have ~

It makes me smile because I would just love to wear the clothes that they wore ~ The magazine is from 1898 ~

These are pictures of bathing suits ~ It talks about how it is not made of wool because when wool is wet it "clings in a most unsightly way to the figure" ~ Can you even imagine wearing this swimming let alone in wool ~

There is another paragraph that says to wear a bonnet because that way "the summer suns cannot seek out the pretty, delicate skin and leave their imprint of tan or freckles upon it. The dweller in the country home - the city maid as well as her village sister - who would preserve her complexion in its pink - white purity " ~

Oh my goodness ! I just am having the most fun reading from these pages from the late 1800's in fashion ~

I will be posting some more pages for you to copy off soon ~

I don't know how to make them clickable so you can make them larger to copy so if anyone knows how please let me know ~

Take Me to the Seashore

I love the seashore ~

I am sure if you have read my blog you probably already know that though :)

Today I got a few new jewelry pieces that take me there ~ I can almost

feel the sand between my toes and the cool ocean breeze ~

I know it is time to go back to the seashore . . . . .

These are now on my website Katies Rose Cottage Designs ~

Crinkled Ribbon Tutorial

I just love crinkled dyed ribbon for using on my projects ~

This is a tutorial on how to make it yourself ~

First you get whatever color ribbon you want to use ~

I use seam binding for the ribbon because I love how it feels ~

Then you soak it in either tea or instant coffee ~

I scrunch mine in a ball and wrap it in about 3 rubber bands ~

Then I sit it out in the sun and as it dries it gets a wonderful aged look especially on the outside edges ~

After it has dried about 3/4 of the way, I take the bands off and kind of loosely spread the ribbon out to dry in the sun ~

Every once in awhile I go and turn the ribbon until it is completely dry ~

Then it is ready to use on your projects ~

I just love love crinkled dyed ribbon !

If you don't want to try it, I do have some for sale on my website here ~
