Canton Junkin' & HOT !!

I LOVE going to First Monday

Trade Days in Canton Texas!

Every month it is something

I so very much look forward to ~

Even though I knew it was hot,

I left my house with a good attitude

and told myself that I would

just stand the heat because

I LOVE Junkin' !

I hit the grounds with my

trusty cart {a necessity there },

my ginormous ice tea and anticipation

of the treasures I would find ~

I drove in and saw ohhhhh maybe

5 vendors when there are usually 75 ~

But....I knew there was cool stuff

even with the 5 vendors and there

was still another HUGE area to hit ~

The next area had about half of

the usual but still some neat things!

I NEED a chicken coop and that cute

little bicycle and all the awesome

galvanized stuff, a gazillion

old keys, a stack of drawers and

birdcage ~

COOL STUFF !

Has anyone done anything awesome

with a chicken coop ~ I want to see :)

I didn't buy any of the big stuff

because I was on a mission for my

website and big stuff is expensive

as craziness to ship ~

After about 2 hours I thought

I would die of heat stroke

so I went to my most favorite

place to eat because it looks healthy,

you get free refills on ice tea

and they have a HUGE fan!!

Ohhhh and the buffalo head rocks!!

{not really, I don't like dead animals

but it is so Texas }~

After I ate I was revitalized

and ready to hit the junkin' trail for

HOURS more ~

Well I lasted about one more hour,

saw sweet Daphne and Dorothy that were fun

to chat with and decided heat stroke

was definitely setting in ~

Dang it!! I so wanted to last

for sooo much longer but

it was kind of miserably hot ~

{110 degrees and it is humid...bleh!!}

Next month I am definitely going

on Thursday so I can visit

LaurieAnna's Vintage Home,

Girls Gone Junkin and some of

my other favorite shops that aren't open

on Wednesday and have air conditioning ~

I talked to my mom, in California,

while driving home and she

told me that she was kind of chilly

because the ocean breeze was blowing

in and it didn't feel like summer

{which she loves }~

I would be loving some ocean breeze

right now :)

This heat has been awful this year! Even triple digits here in Kentucky! One of these days I'm going to Canton!

I love all things vintage chicken!! I've used my chicken coops to house my many magazines and hung one on the wall for 'shelving'.

You're right, there was still some neat stuff. I'm not a hot weather person. Kudos to you.

Oh Lori, that is hot! We are actually rather mild down here in So. Cal too. Cloudy mornings and only mid to upper 80's. Wish I could send some coolness your way. Looks like a fun day was had though. I can't wait to be able to go back and hit the flea markets after this baby arrives. :)
hugs,
Carrie

Now that's a woman who will brave the elements for a good find! 110 degrees, whoa... that's hot! It's been horrible here in North Carolina too. Friday we're probably going to break a record of 105 degrees.

Lori, my grandparents live in Canton! I too LOVE First Monday! I hate it was so hot there today. My grandmother says its miserable. It's hot here in NC too but not that hot! I've been looking for an old tobacco basket & chicken crate. We'll go to FM in January during our annual trip back home to Texas. And have you ever ate at Ochoa's? It's a MUST!

Kudos to you Lori for even going. Had it been that hot here I wouldn't have. lol. LOVE a good sale, but I can't handle HOT HOT HOT!! :)
I don't have a chicken coop, but I used to gather eggs with my bff at their place when I was very young and thought it was a blast. They thought we were nuts because they had to do it every day and did not enjoy it. She told me not too long ago that when people used to come and asked for "cracked eggs" because they were cheaper...if they didn't have any that came out that way, then her and her siblings would go in the back and crack some!!! How funny is that!! Gotta love kids and their reasoning. :)
Blessings~

There ya go again...rubbing my nose in Canton goodness. After seeing the temp at 110, I completely forgive you this time. What a trooper you are.

Oh Lori you are a brave girl going to Canton in this heat - but TOTALLY understand - my favorite place on earth! And my favorite place to eat is the Red barn also - love thier Chicken Salad and curly fries and the list goes on! I am going as soon as it cools down in Texas - which better come soon or we are all going to melt!Stay cool we can only wish for some cool breeze!

Every one needs a chicken coop! Sounds fun. I'm all for an ocean breeze too. Humidity here is only like 180%. hehe

Oh, I forgot to mention I'm also on the hunt for a chicken coup. Ever since I talked to Becky, from Buckets of Burlap, at LaurieAnna's in May and she told me she had one hanging in her dinning room I have been smitten. I ran right home to check out her blog to see how in the world she used it. I absolutely love using totally unusual items in new and creative ways. I'm not exactly where I will put it in my "new" suburban home. I've thought perhaps over my bath tub holding towels and bath goodies, but I've also thought about using it in my office/reading room. I also really want a chicken feeder to use as a plate rack on my kitchen island. I hope I can just handle the heat long enough to find them??? Perhaps at 8am it will only be 99!?!

I would love to have that old table but I just couldn't take the heat! Hopefully next month will be cooler? I swear if we don't get some rain soon we are going to look like Arizona!!
We sold at First Monday for a long
time and we remember the heat, I feel sorry for the vendors, especially the ones on the grounds.

Just to share with you folks, i have a new post today on Amish Stories from the Terre Hill days even that was just held in Lancaster Pennsylvania. It was a very hot day but i was able to get i think a few good images from this event. The town is populated with a mix of Amish and old order Mennonites which only adds to its charm. They even have what has become famous in Terre Hill their "outhouse race". The town sits on a hill so it overlooks Lancaster farmland in almost all directions. This is one of my favorite towns to visit because its free from commercialism, so if you are looking for a really all American kind of town with the added bonus of seeing its Amish and Mennonite residents at work and play, then this town is for you. Thanks folks. Richard from Amish Stories.

Brave woman! I went to one of our local fleamarkets back in June and I thought I was going to pass out...and this was all before 9:30 am... I can't even imagine in Texas!

Fun to go junkin though! Can't wait to see what you found.

PS...I discovered that your link on my "links page" is not correct anymore...do I have a new banner for you?

It's even been hot here in PA lately! I love digging through junk like that, next time I'll tag along and ride in your cart!

OOOOOOOH.....Would I love an ocean breeze right now like your Mom has. I would give anything to hit those Texas fleas with you gals out there. But the same is going on here. Too hot hot hot for even any yard sales. I hit one this past weekend...that was about it. And I see no coolness moving in this week either. Hey Lori,,,, tickled you stopped by my blog. Always love to see you! xoxo

I missed this month's Canton but I know it must have been miserable. I would say the vendors should offer a "heat stroke" discount but then again they have to endure the heat too!
