Treasures from the Past

When you go out junkin' do you

collect things to sell ~ to recreate

something from the past that

becomes a new treasure for someone else ~

I love to get things for my home

but I can only have so much before

it becomes hoarder status ~

So.....I am mostly on the hunt for

things to put on my website ~

While I was in Kansas I got

two Bibles that I thought would be

awesome to take the pages from

and use in pocket pillows or for

who knows what else but they are aged

so perfectly!

As I took them out and really looked at

them (which I don't really do

when I am on the search) .....

I started to think about where they have

been ... what stories they had to tell...

Was this little Bible carried

to a church like this ~

or this ~

Was this larger Bible in a families house

out on a prairie somewhere ~ Did they

find comfort in its pages during

hard times ...

Where have they been through the years

to end up in a flea market in 2011 ~

Precious treasures from the past

are the things that we collect ...

whether to recreate with or to

cherish as they are ~

Love that bible, too beautiful. But I'm from Wichita, so those pictures really hit home with me! Wow, could be my ancestors. Thanks for sharing. Riki

Hello Katie,

yes, you are absolutely right. Little treasures: were do they come from. Unfortunately we don't know. I also love "treasures from the past"!

I can't ever pass up an old Bible. I love the script in that first one. I would love to do a wall in Bible pages like Rebecca Ersfeld (don't think I spelled her name right)! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

One of the girls did her booth in Lone Star Antique Mall with pages from a book. I have been thinking about doing something on the wall of my bathroom and I think the pages from an old bible would look great. I loved the script in that first old bible. I never can pass up a bible. The good ones I give away and the old ones I just hoard!!!

Every item has a story. Some just have to be left to the imagination. Great post!

I love old books, especially Bibles.
When I use them in my work, I am always hopeful a verse or page may be read, that will lead someone into the Loving arms of Jesus love.

These are beautiful.

I have an old family bible that has been in our family for years. It has many litle tresures inside of it. One thing that is precious is a small piece of my Great grandmothers hair that has been braided and made into the letter "M" for Martha. It was from her hair as a small child

I have a special place for bibles, especially the vintage ones. I've wondered myself where some of them came from. These are beautiful.

What a lovely old Bible. I'm sure whoever owned it cherished it. You do have to wonder how it ended up at a flea market, but aren't you glad it did? Nice find!

Ooh, I love the vintage Bible. I also wonder when I pick up a vintage Bible at a flea market or antique store who the owner was. I like to look through the pages and see if and where they underlined verses. I do like reading your blog, admiring all about vintage and your trip to Cali so much that I decided to become your new follower! :) Have a sweet, happy weekend!

I have a little French bible; it's my only really vintage one. But I can't help but wonder too where it has been. Though an inscription says it was recovered in WWI by a US soldier. Treasures, yes!
