Tattered Layered Rose Tutorial

I am still having fun tea dyeing
fabric and lace so wanted to
show you a tutorial on a
Tattered Layered Rose ~

First I cut 2 different
fabrics and one sheer fabric
into 2 inch strips about
1.5 yards long ~

Then gather the each fabric strip
right on one edge
( don't gather the sheer strip )
~ I used my ruffler foot
which I pretty much love!

After they are gathered I cut snips
about every 1.5 inches randomly
and ripped each snip
almost to the gathered edge ~

Then tea dye the fabric and
let dry in the sunshine ~

Next stack all the layers with
the shear on top and stitch through all ~

Be careful that all of the
fabric is straightened and not bunched up ~
it can be bunchy since it was tea dyed ~

Then follow my directions here for how
to glue the rose,
which I glued it on canvas ~

Next cut random pieces of lace,
ribbon and dyed fabric
and glue it to the underneath side ~

Then cut a circle to fit out of canvas and
glue it on top of the ribbons ~

After that I tied a vintage skeleton key
to one of the ribbons and glued a pin on the back ~

That is it!
A fluffy tattered rose ❤

Waa! I don't have a ruffler foot and doubt very seriously if I could find one to fit my 30 year old machine. I suppose with lost of time and patience, the same could be accomplished with basting and gathering, then sewing? Your roses are luscious and beautiful!

Lori I am bookmarking this page. This project is fabulous!

I have a praise in that our home has officially sold. I now have just 32 to days to find a home, pack and move. A little pressure? :) We put a bid on a home yesterday that will give "The Money Pit" a run for it's money.
I wanted to let you know that I so appreciate all of your support and kind comments and if I am absent the next few weeks from your blog please know I will return soon.

For whomever you nurture, have a happy and blessed Mother's Day.

Love all ur projects and ur website and blog! So inspiring! I was wondering how many strips u used total for this rose? Also, did u pin and gather the strips and just use the ruffler foot at the end or did u use the ruffler foot for the gathering too? I don't sew very much and I don't have a ruffler foot, but I'm going o attempt this! Any tips wld be much appreciated! Thx
